Santa Barbara to LA

Our original plan for today had been to get on the road early to spend the day at Manhattan Beach. This was one of the places we visited on our previous road trip five years ago that Molly and I were excited to get back to. However, after our wonderful afternoon at the Goodland none of us were quite ready to leave. Instead, we grabbed cups of coffee and bags of granola and hit the pool.

The girls spent the rest of the morning swimming and we spent the morning sunning. Our time was finally up at noon, but we were all somewhat consoled by the knowledge that we would soon be making one of the most anticipated food trips of the stop – perhaps even second only to Baja Fresh: In-N-Out. Before going in Ellie was pretty insistent that she did not want a hamburger for lunch. I’m not sure whether it was the burger or shake that changed her mind but she ended up giving it a rare “Two Ellie Thumbs Up”.

After lunch we stopped at the beach in Santa Barbara for the photo op and a few minutes of beach time. It’s pretty amazing to think that Bob, even at his old age has been to both coasts of the US within only 3 months of each other. With Molly navigating we maneuvered through LA traffic like pros and checked into our hotel for the night where another assortment of goodies was waiting for us. We swam some more, sipped our wine/sangria, and had shared some great small plates for dinner.

I think the vacation mode lifestyle that we’ve been in since we got to Vegas is actually starting to get a bit on everyone’s nerves. We’ll all be a bit relieved when we get back to the hiking that we actually took this trip to do. Tomorrow we’re going to complete a very minor walk/hike to see the Hollywood sign up close and personal.
