Day 2

We are at the very end of day two and are still laughing, getting along, enjoying each other’s company. At least for the most part. There was a rough patch late this afternoon when I just couldn’t handle one more handstand in our hotel room, but I think that is a normal reaction to gymnastics being performed in small spaces.

We started the day off at a darling drive-thru coffee stand. Of course, we did our research and read the only review on Trip Advisor. The commentator mentioned nothing about the quality of coffee, only that the employees are gorgeous. I would add that the coffee was strong, robust, and flavorful.

Gorgeous?

Then we just drove. A lot. Through the rest of Nebraska and then into and through Wyoming. Crossing the state border into Colorado was pretty nondescript, yet the atmosphere seemed to change. We blasted bluegrass and took in the majestic mountains. I think we all felt a bit like we were back home. Zak was sure to stop at EVERY SINGLE “scenic outlook” spot, we saw former mines, grazing fields, a river, a coal power plant.

Trying to remove some of the thousands of bug carcasses that are on the car. Ugh!

We made a quick stop in Steamboat Springs for postcard stamps and window shopping. Ellie ended up with a darling baseball cap since we couldn’t find hers when we were packing. Zak got the free t-shirt that came with the hat.

We found the hotel and after the girls swam into the early evening we headed out to dinner. According to Trip Advisor we ended up choosing the #3 best restaurant in Craig, the other top ones were too pricy. Zak made a wrong turn out of the parking lot and we ended up quite a ways away from where we needed to be. I pulled up the new directions on Google Maps and recited each step to Zak. We were to turn left on a road and we all gasped in astonishment when we saw the road. I don’t think anyone has driven on it for year and we decided we shouldn’t test the four wheel drive.

A road? For cars? Nah, we'll stick to pavement.

That’s when Zak told us about all the people he has read about who have blindly followed Google Maps and end up lost and dead. Freaked the girls out.

Dinner was a fun BBQ joint with cold Coor’s Lite and excellent fried okra. We were all happy and full as we left the town of Craig to head back to the hotel.

I have to say that I am so anxious for tomorrow. We get to hike, explore, and give the whole camping thing a whirl!! Check back to see how it all goes!
