Days 47 and 48: Durango

We did not choose the location of CO home because of Durango, even though it’s the closest “big” city. In fact, we had never even been until the night we put the offer in on the lot. And yet, I can see why people would settle in this area just because of Durango. What a great community!

Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day. We spent the morning talking with design builders and the afternoon was spent window shopping. The evening was spent enjoying cocktails and a couple of bites here and there. Our favorite was Bookcase and Barber, a speakeasy, under the front of a barbershop. Tasty drinks, great bartenders, and a vibe that is unmatched. Moro, Pour House, and Steamworks Brewery were all excellent too. I guess I know what city we’ll head to when we need a nice night out.

We put our hiking boots back on today and a hiked to the summit of Animas Mountain. It was good to be back on the trial doing a longer hike. The views were spectacular and the flora was nearly exactly what we have at our place. The hike was about 6 miles and 1,500 feet in gain, just enough to deserve a lunch and brew at Ska Brewery.

Camping was the plan tonight, but we opted for a shower after the sweaty hike, so we’re back in Cortez for the night.
