Day 20

Last night my parents told us to get up at 7 am. I forgot to set an alarm but, as it turns out that was not a problem because at 7:02 the human alarm clock the I was tenting with started violently taping my shoulder and saying we over slept get up get up. All I will say is that the first half hour of the day I was In a mood. I will not disclose what mood I was in. We then drove two and a half hours to ouray. We spent an hour and a half walking around then we meet up with one of my dad’s coworkers and his family. We had lunch with them then drove on million dollar highway to a bar where my parents had drinks. On our way home we got a text from our neighbors saying that a bear had been at there house and ate there bird feed. We have to camp on the property tonight if I do not post tommorow be concerned. For dinner we started a thing where we take turns going in teams to the grocery store and picking out dinner for the night. Last time Zoe and my mom got a nice charcuterie toped with two kinds of cheese, pita chips, hummus, and garlic crackers. Tonight was my dad’s and my turn and we were in it to win it. We started by grabbing two banquets, a tube of mazzrella balls, basil, tomato, summer sausage, and some blackberries. We used all of this to make capris sandwichs. Last time for dessert we had two kinds of cake. This time we had three kinds of personal pie that we will be splitting. Who’s dinner would you want to try and what dinner would you make? Truthfully I am freaked out for camping tonight because of the bear situation but, it will most likely be ok!

  1. I know your family knows bear precautions, so you’ll be fine. We NEVER have a bird feeder or hummingbird feeder. That is asking for trouble in the mountains!

    1. That’s my thinking too!! It doesn’t make sense to me. We’re cuddling with our bear spray tonight!

  2. To be fair, it’s only the first 20 minutes out of Ouray that are TRULY terrifying, right?!

  3. Also, we have the “European” style levers on our doors instead of knobs. We keep the doors locked at all times, because bears have been known to open such doors (particularly in Aspen) to get food. As for Red Mountain Pass, people here think we are insane to find it scary. They do it quite routinely and casually! Like the high school sports teams travel on it all winter.

  4. Both dinners sound delicious, but I agree with Paula, the blackberries make you a winner! What are personal pies? And I’ve been worried about the bears, too, Ellie. I can’t wait to see today’s post.
