“if I don’t die by Thursday I’ll be roarin’ Friday night”Jimmy Buffett
Hello, Utah! We’re currently on our way to Moab after an eventful morning in the tri-city area. I was up with the birds at 4:30 this morning. In particular the bird that kept singing “tweet, tweet, tweet, tweetledeeteleedeetele. tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweetledeeteleedeetele.” On repeat. I hope it got its worm.
Everyone else eventually woke as well and we broke down our camp at COHO. Molly often claims that we settled on building in Mancos because it is home to the Absolute Bakery & Cafe. We hadn’t been yet this trip and correcting that was also on our todo list for the day. Going on the weekend is a special treat because they serve excellent biscuits and gravy. When you go add an egg and side of green chile.
After two days without hiking we were also all ready to get back on a trail. Molly suggested the Prater Ridge hike at Mesa Verde, a trail she and the girls had attempted, but found completely ice covered over spring break. It turned out to be perfect for today. 7.5 miles and 1600 feet of gain in the mid 8000’s. The highlight of the trail was the amazing views of the entire region from Mancos to Telluride and the La Sal to Ute Mountain. We tried to find our house, but while we spotted some familiar landmarks we didn’t spot it. I guess we did a good job choosing colors that blend into the landscape.
