“give us those nice bright colors

Give us the greens of summers”

Paul Simon

At some point in the last couple days of not doing much hiking, we decided that we were ready for a big hike. We also stumbled upon the perfect mountain playground just north of Dolores. I was actually warned by my barber not to tell anyone about it since it’s one of the last spots in the area that isn’t completely overrun. As we saw only one other group of people all day (motorcyclists) that doesn’t seem to be too much of a concern, so I will say that we summited Eagle Peak in the southern San Juans.

It was a long hard day for all of us, we arrived at the trailhead at 8:30 and started almost immediately. We returned at 6 after traveling 13.5 miles and climbing over 4,000 ft topping out at just over 12,100. Although all we did was walk all day, it was perfect and I am exhausted. Hopefully everyone else was in more of a mood to write tonight.
