This morning as we all emerged from our tents the 100 degree weather hit our exhausted faces. We ate an amazing Father’s day breakfast of clif bars and hit the trail.
We started this hike a few years ago but turned around because we saw rain in the distance. This year however us and the drought came back stronger than ever. We scrambled up between the two slot canyons and were at the top of a mesa. The hike was SO hot and in fully direct sunlight🙄
My favorite part of the hike was this hill that was basically all pottery shards from the annual pottery breaking ceremony and everywhere you walked there was a different piece of pottery to admire and look at. My favorite was the corrugated ones.
After the hike we all cooled off and ate some peanut butter and jelly in the car because it was literally 1000 degrees. We all made the executive decision to not camp (big suprise) but rather get a hotel instead. One thing we’ve discovered is some of us (hint:NOT ME) enjoy the idea of camping but no one actually enjoys it. So I was very happy when I discovered we were going to spend the night in Farmington.
We went back up the super rocky terrifying dirt road and drove to the nicest Hampton Inn in Farmington (there is no wifi so you are also seeing this a day late) We went to 3 rivers brewery and shares some green chili cheese fry things before going to a delicious New Mexican restaurant for Father’s day dinner. Tomorrow we are hiking in Durango!
HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!
