Our original plan had us getting to Europe today and starting the hike tomorrow. I’m so glad we’ve had these days to enjoy this corner of the Alps.
I am going to embrace Ellie’s idea of turning this into a food blog, at least until we start the hike. (Did you read her last post?? We’ve since had to put her on a two croissant a day limit, only because she won’t stop asking for another one.)
Dinner last night. Oh my. Goodness. We had read rave reviews of Le Monchu and were not at all disappointed! The outdoor patio was full and we were seated inside. Although warm, the ambiance was delightful. I had perused the menu earlier in the day and was set on getting the French onion soup and escargot. Upon sitting down, we decided we’d share the soup and snails as an appetizer. Love!!! I’m proud of Ellie for trying both and Zoe LOVED the escargot. I mean, what’s not to love? The garlic, the butter: delish!
Since my plan was undermined (joyfully!), I pretty randomly picked tartiflette, a decision that will bring back happy memories for the foreseeable future. It was potatoes, onions, and bacon baked with some ridiculous cheese. Oh, and a salad. But let’s talk about the cheesy, garlicky, potatoes. It was so good. Zoe had pasta carbonara and I sure hope she writes about her experience. Zak and Ellie shared a half roasted coq au vin platter. Everything was divine!
We ended our time in Chamonix this morning with breakfast at the same place Zak and I went to yesterday. I had a small quiche lorraine and a latte. Maybe y’all know this, but the lattes here are served with the steamed milk in a little pitcher on the side.
We took a short bus ride to Les Houches and walked around the village. We found lunch at Kitch Inn (how cute?!?) and I had a much needed salad. I know it seems like we are going from one meal right to the next, but there are many hours between, filled with walking, walking, and more walking.
This afternoon we did a load of laundry and a final gear check. Tomorrow is the day. We finally start this hike. I’m anxious and excited, not at all nervous or scared. I know we’re ready. I know we’ll slay it. Can not wait! We’ll be over 10 miles into the hike the next time I post!

Great post, except the first sentence of the last paragraph. It should have said “. . . Zak did two loads of laundry . . .”!
