backpacking at bandelier

Today feltike one of the longest of the trip so sorry if I skip like half the day.

Last night our room was 99 degrees but this morning I woke up at 6:30because I was freezing and it was supposed to be our sleep in day 🙁 Anyway at 8 we went down to breakfast. Which was fine. Then we drove to bandelier (for some reason Bandelier keeps autocorrectojg to bandleader so sorry if I miss fixing one lol). It is right by a neacleur test plant or something so we may or may not have accidently turned into the security line.

We arrived at Bandleader eventually I actually have zero idea what time it was and got ready for the hike. Okay, I’m actually falling asleep rn so I’m going to skip to the interesting part and hope someone writes about eating bagels and going up the clif.

So as qe were walking up the 600 foot clif, I’m actually dying. It was 900 degrees and my stomach and legs hurt. It was miserable to begin with BUT THEN as I thought my stomach was going to fall in on itself from cramps our friends send a picture of them eating slurpees. It was very sad but I was promised a frozen drink tmrw!

Once we got to the top, had some advil the weather cooled down 30 degrees. Typically that would have been great but we saw the giant thunderstorm coming towards us. We texted the otts and grandma that we might die but don’t worry because we have a tent. That tent was very traumatic. It smelt terrible, I thought I would pass out from the stink. Also, I had zero faith in the little metal poles from zapping away the lightning. Also, I got 5 severe weather alert notifications all at once on my phone for hail, flash flood, lightning, and to get inside. 😁 lol

im going to bed now so sry for the short post but im exhausted also found some fettuccine in Santa fe!!

  1. “we might die but don’t worry because we have a tent.” Bahahahaha

    Storm scare song:

    My trail name is camper,
    And you’d better get spent.
    Because if you come closer,
    We have a stinky tent!

  2. I’m thrilled you found fettuccine, but was it Alfredo? Bandelier to Bandleader is one of my all-time favorite auto-corrects.
