This morning as the 5:30 alarm rang I literally had icicles growing from my eyelashes because of how cold it was. Our sleeping bags are supposed to keep us warm up to 19 degrees Fahrenheit but I think they meant Celsius or the inventory has zero concept of temperature. It was FREEZING.
We got to leave our tents setup so the morning included getting barked at by an incredibly yappy annoying dog, being forced to eat clif bars for “energy” and that’s about it.
We started going up and yea it was a challenge but I think I was still asleep enough to not fully realize I was up 2000 feet. This time the down was actually harder because I have the knees of a 75 year old thanks to my mom. Anyway we went up a lot. It was super shady and nice outside. The bighorn sheep agreed and were also out grazing on the wildflowers.
We got to the top about 8:30 after 2 hours of hiking and so many switchbacks. At the top we had a brunch of trail mix and watched the sun come over the rest of the mountain. From the top you could see everything and it was super Pretty!! Then we went went back down 60 feet and up 40 to summit Mt. Walter. Again pretty similar views but a little bit shorter. also this time we had the summit to ourself.
Then we went down. This time it was a lot more crowed and because of the ippery rocks I kept on slipping and twisting my ankle in front of crowds of people. It was extremely graceful. When we got almost all the way down we stopped at the Bavarian Restaurant and I got sprite. I don’t even like fizzy drinks that much but every sip was perfection.
Then we drove down the mountain and stopped at our very hot but cute bed and breakfast. This is also the first night of the trip ellie and I get our own beds which is very exciting.
we spent the afternoon hanging out at chili’s. I’ve never been before but you really can’t go wrong with unlimited chips and salsa. For dinner we are going to Rancho de chamayo which is supposed to be delicious.
