Camping is Lame and I want fettuccine alfredo

This morning started with sleeping in, coffee outside on the courtyard, showers, and no rush. Tomorrow morning when I am forced to get out of this little orange tent all of that will be different. I wouldn’t be surprised if a bear tries to kill me or I actually die from waking up at 5:30. I guess if your reading this I survived. (👍)

The majority of what we did today was eat food to fulfill us for the next 24 hours because we are in the middle of nowhere and I am on beef jerky strike. We went to Taos and ate some new Mexican food. It was pretty good. Then we went to the brewery and played bananagrams for hours. During that time I only won 2 of the games🙈.

As we were hanging out in Taos it was literally thunderstorming on the mountain we were camping on. I don’t know much about anything but especially hiking/camping/outdoorsy stuff but I do know to not go high when it’s raining. We waited it out little bit but had to start at some point. It was drizzling when we got to the trail head.

We passed the Bavarian restaurant as we started ascending up the mountain. The trail was pretty steep but didn’t expect anything else on the highest point in New Mexico. We kept going up the trail which could have just as easily been the 4 wheel drive road we were on a few days ago. we followed the signs to Williams Lake. I set my expectations too high because I was expectating a blue alpine lake bur we got more of a green puddle. That’s cool if it’s your thing but I’ve seen cooler puddles. We set up our tents and not to be a Debbie downer but here are things I actually don’t get about why people enjoy camping.

  • THE PACKS!!! Omg!! Who wants to carry their house, bed, kitchen, bathroom with them in a backpack. FOR FUN?? They weigh literally 95 pounds. So your shoulders and hips and legs are sore the next day BUT then people were like “let’s make this a 2 day thing”. I don’t find pleasure in it. And you might be saying the view, or it’s so peaceful or I can’t imagine what else. Family time?? Okay BUT you can’t see anything from inside a tent and if I wanted to see the view it could have been a day hike. It is incredibly peaceful but not when you have to do literally 900000 other things in orderto sleep. And 5 weeks into a road trip I’m not super worried about family time.

Also since last time we backpacked I never got my incredibly well deserved fettuccine alfredo so that craving is stronger than ever now. If you know any good places to get fettuccine alfredo in Santa Fe let me know because I need it.

With that being said it is super pretty here and quite. I’m also excited to hike wheeler peak tomorrow!! Now we are just laying in the tents I’m listening to this and going to try and sleep amazing.
