Day 4

It is already day 4 and we have made it Colorado Springs. Once again we did a stop drive stop drive kind of day. The first stop of the day was about ten minutes from our hotel so, we had breakfast at the hotel instead of taking it on the road. After the quick drive we pulled into new bent fort, It was a quick stop consisting of a .75 mile hike and seeing the few remains of a fort and former trading post. After the stop we spent forty minutes driving to our next stop Old bent fort but something tells me this one is a bit newer for those of you wondering why I think it’s newer my reasoning is that there were people activity building it during our visit. Anyway we pulled into the parking lot and there were a few information posters about the fort and we’ll my family read about the history of it. I went over to the bulletin board with a bunch of rules and stuff, but one thing in particular caught my eye and that was the tours I saw that one of the tours was at 10 and since it was 9:45 I mentioned it to the family and we decided to do it. Please keep in mind none of us had been in the fort yet and I just assumed it would be a quick ranger lead tour explaining about the place. So we did the quick walk over to reconstruction of the fort and I don’t think anything could have really prepared us for what was saw but, nonetheless we walked in to a complete reenactment of what a day would have been like at the trading post/fort this included everything from peacocks to Jose. Honestly most of the rooms were pretty self explanatory so we probably could have saved the 12 dollars and twenty minutes that were spent talking about the three kinds of trade but, we stayed for 45 minutes until we finally saw our chance to sneak off from the group well the unnamed tour guide went off to Jose who apparently was not where he was supposed to be. We spent 5 minutes looking at the other half of the fort , then realized that in ourder to stamp our passport books we would have to walk through the tour group that we had diched only about five minutes ago, so we once again found ourselves wandering around the fort in hopes of finding any way to the bookstore. A few minutes later we went back into the kitchen where we went through a gate the lead us down an allyway to the bookstore. After that debacle we decided to opt out to the two mile hike and just head back to that car where we dined on some PBJ and C. We drove to maninte springs and had a beer and lemonade before going over to Colorado Springs where we had more beer and played a game. If you want to hear a bit stronger opinion on the tour then please go read Zoe’s post because let’s just say she did. A LOT of talking after the tour. For dinner we’re going to in and out a luxury for mid-westerns like us.

  1. An escape through a kitchen and alley and bookstore??! How are you the only family member to include those key details!!!? And be honest…was your suggestion of this tour like your tractor comment the other day? Another way of messing with the family?
