The first time I was in Vegas I was about 8 or 9 on a family vacation quite similar to the one we’re doing now. I don’t remember much, other than the bright pink and red room of Circus Circus. The most recent 3 or 4 times I’ve been to Vegas have been without kids and a ton of fun. Vegas really is one of the best places in the world.
I was quite apprehensive about stopping in Vegas with the kids, but there really aren’t many other logical options to break up the drive between the Rockies and LA. We still had a great time, even without the gambling and excessive drinking. MGM has amazing pools and our kids were swimming among many, many other children and families. Although we didn’t indulge in the $23 margaritas, as we had to keep a close (sober) eye on the girls, we all had a great time.
We stayed off the strip for meals and got to see some of the town of Vegas, which is quite family friendly. We did do a few of the strip hotels that feature things we thought the girls would enjoy and had a nice time.
Vegas with kids is not anything like Vegas without kids, but it was an enjoyable stop for us. And it was kind of nice to see large crowds of people after being as isolated as we’ve been for much of the last week.
