Miss Tracey

Several months ago, my friend Katie told me about a weekly event at Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor.

Every Monday morning Miss Tracey, a phenomenal storyteller, performs for all those who happen to stop by. And we are certain to stop by every week. Zoe gets a kiddie scoop of chocolate peanut butter ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. At 10:00 in the morning. Every Monday morning. That’s a point for me in the “bad Mommy category.” As Zoe is finishing her treat, Miss Tracey arrives and Zoe immediately fills with giddiness.

Miss Tracey does not read stories, or even repeat versions of stories already created. Instead, she tells wild, wacky tales of fascinating original characters complete with hilarious interactive props. Zoe usually plops down in the front row and focuses all her attention on the story, only turning back to look at me to make sure I didn’t miss something really funny.

When we first started attending, Zoe was quite intimidated by the other children and liked to watch but not interact. Now she’s become much more comfortable and is happily willing to be a dancing flower, attempt to snatch a wild flower, sneak a peak into the apple home of a worm, or whatever silly activity Miss Tracey has come up with.

The other day I randomly asked Zoe what she wanted to be when she grew up and without a moment’s hesitation she responded, “Storyteller. Like Miss Tracey.” That’s if the whole Starbucks barista gig doesn’t work out.

Story time is on hold for a few weeks, while Miss Tracey is out of town, but we’re anxious for it to start up again. Visit her website here, and check back. She mentioned that there will soon be a DVD for sale and I’m sure it will make a great gift for any little ones in your life!
