Fall Training Hike and RT16 Planning Update

Today we took advantage of the beautiful weather that materialized to get in a hike at the Morton Arboretum. We used to take the girls there regularly when they were younger to play in all the impressive kids areas. Occasionally we ventured a bit further onto the trails for a picnic or some mild sight-seeing, but today was the first time that we full explored the grounds. We made a complete figure eight and saw every stage of fall color, lots of ducks, and outside of the visitor center very few people.

Today’s spur of the moment hike got all of us back in the hiking mood. So much so that there’s been talk of an overnight excursion to Starved Rock in a couple weeks to get another one in and to test our gear in coldish weather.

Planning for RT16 is coming along very well. We have hotels (and camping!) planned for just about every night. We have hikes tentatively planned for each stop. We’ve decided on, and even bought some of our camping gear. There is still, of course, a huge amount of work remaining.
