I feel like we made it home. At least home away from home. We left Minneapolis at 9ish and quickly made three mandatory Wisconsin stops.
1. Fireworks. Craziness. It was like it was the day before the Fourth at a firework store right across the border of a state where they are illegal. I also realized that the majority of firework shoppers don’t wear deodorant.
2. Cheese. Of course we stopped at our favorite cheese factory, Cady. Stocked up on salsa cheddar, bacon colby, 11 year aged cheddar, and cheese curds.
3. Beer, bakery goods, and worms. We quickly ran through Chetek, stopping at a bar for our first Spotted Cow of the summer, swung by the tackle shop for worms and fishing licenses, and picked up danishes and so much more from the Chetek Bakery.
Finally, we pulled onto Sunset Lane and and were greeted with hugs and smiles. Awesome! It’s funny how quickly lake life starts when we get up here. Almost immediately we had cold bottles in our hands and the girls were rowing on the lake. We spent the afternoon catching up and sharing summer adventures.
We were graciously invited to an evening picnic at family friends on a nearby lake. The girls kayaked, had fun with sparklers for the first time ever, played bags, and we all went on a lovely boat ride. Once darkness fell, there was a magnificent firework show from barges in the middle of the lake. Surrounding the large fireworks were smaller ones people were setting off from their cottages.
We are so fortunate to end this trip surrounded by loved ones. Happy Fourth all!
