Kudos to Ranger Mike for, once again, suggesting an awesome hike. We took it a little more easy today after yesterday’s long and uppy hike. We were the first hikers of the day to the Fisher Towers trailhead, which really surprised me, as we didn’t get there until 8:45. With the exception of some climbers who had signed the log book earlier than us, we were all alone. It was glorious. The hike wasn’t difficult, which allowed us to enjoy each breathtaking view. We went 2.2 miles (according to the trailhead sign, 2.6 miles according to out trail tracker apps) up and around these amazing geological features. I don’t know the the proper name, maybe pillars or fins that surrounded the mesa, or left over former canyon walls. I’m not sure, I just know that my love for the desert was reaffirmed. The elevation gain was about 1,100 and didn’t cause any issues for any of us. Funny that it was about the same as yesterday, but so much more spread out.
The end of the trail was marked very clearly, both by the sign that said, “TRAIL ENDS” and by the phenomenal 360 degree views of the canyon and mesas. The view could not have gotten any more exquisite. We sat for at least a half an hour taking it all in, grabbing handfuls of trail mix, and being in awe of this land and one another. I think it’s one of my favorite spots I’ve ever been.
The hike back to the trailhead was quick and we passed several groups of hikers on their way up. We took several moments to rest and spot the climbers on the wall of the mesa. We all talked about how fun that would be someday, but also about the immense amount of training and practice we would all need. Zoe was most enthused about the sport, so we agreed that she could master it, and then she can take us out climbing and rappelling in the future.
We are spending the night in Richfield, Utah, a town of not many good looking restaurants and a Holiday Inn Express. The kids are playing in the pool and it might be the first night we order a pizza for the room.
I continue to be amazed and inspired by your adventures each day! Thank you for sharing these experiences with those of us who will never be able to experience these stunningly beautiful places,
