This morning we woke up at 7:00 to get ready for the day.
We had a 5 hour drive in front of us and would arrive at Arches by 2. As we continued driving west the landscape changed so much. We went from mountains, luciaous forests and snow to mountains, layers of sandstone, little shrubs, and sand.
When we arrived at Arches we picked up our permit to hike the fiery furnace alone tommorow. We also stopped by the gift shop where we got some postcards and I got a sticker for my water bottle.
After our quick stop at the visitors center we went to Moab where we got an oil change, picked up some groceries for dinner, and stopped at the hotel and went back to Arches.
About a month ago Ellie had the idea to hike to Delicate Arch for sunset and have dinner there. So, we did just that!
Ranger Mike suggested that we start hiking at 5:30ish. It was a very, very steep hike but it was one hundred percent worth it. Right before the last turn there was an arch that we sat in for about half an hour that had a great view of the LaSalle mountains, delicate arch, and a million other rocks that are amazing. I still can’t believe that we still live in Illinois where all there is is corn and flatness.
After relaxing there for a little bit we headed on to delicate arch there is no way to possibly describe the beauty. In one direction there is mountains and the other giant canyons. Then you turn your head back around and the colors have changes or the clouds are lower.
We waited and just listened to nothing for a few hours before having our cheese, crackers, meat, apples, and hummus. The food was good but the view made it great.
After sunset we hiked back down and got back to our hotel. Tommorow we have a super fun day planned hiking in the Fiery Furnace!!
