“I’m too sexy / Too sexy for my shirt / So sexy it hurts.” – Right Said Fred
Day 10 has brought us to Bisbee, Arizona. This isn’t a place that I knew existed a couple days ago. But it does, and we’re here now. Last night we decided to roll with our decision to camp. It may not have been the right decision because as soon as we finished setting up our tents the thunderstorms began. Zoe and I were tent buddies for the night and I think we both rolled with the punches pretty well as we did our best to enjoy the sound of the rain falling around us. We didn’t get wet and I actually had a pretty good night’s sleep. I did wake up for a bit at 2:30 in the morning, but then I went back to sleep until Molly asked if I was awake at about 4:45 AM. I wasn’t but I said I was. That may have also not been the right decision because it led to having to get out of bed.
Once out of bed though the day began to pick up. Because of the thunderstorms our tents and Zoe and my sleeping bags were wet so we decided to just start the day’s hike and worry about the gear later.
Then the day got even better. Chicicahua NM is a pretty sweet hiking place. Imagine the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon plus forests and a river but minus all the people. It may have been the best hike of the trip so far (no disrespect to Guadalupe Peak because mountains always rock). I’m going to let Molly take care of picture posting because she will anyway and that makes this a little easier for me. Thanks, Mol. After finishing a beautiful hike we stopped back at the campground to pack up our mostly dry equipment while Deeganing an ice cold Coors Lite. The final stop at Chriricahua was the Visitor Center where we learned that we’d earned a Hike for Health pin for completing the “Big Loop”. WooHoo, more flair! That one will definitely make my lanyard for this year.
Today is Father’s Day and the girls hooked me up with some awesome presents. First, partway through the hike today THE Brain Thompson of the IJP Whatever Happened to the Pizza at McDonald’s followed me on Twitter. Then we got to the hotel in Bisbee and the girls gave me an awesome shirt with’s Brian’s infamous “Thank you for your candor” quote on it. Mr. Thompson also sent Molly an email saying that he would send me some priceless artifacts. Although I won’t be able to see them for a month or so I can’t wait to find out what they are. As a thank you to the IJP and to help further the investigation I plan to visit the new “international” McDonald’s being constructed in Chicago to see whether they serve pizza in their Italian section. Thank you Molly, Zoe, Ellie, and Brian!
So now we’re in Bisbee, AZ, a place that exists and that I am in. I’ve learned two things about Bisbee so far. First, that at the turn of the last century it was the biggest city between St. Louis and San Francisco. Second, that there is a brewery here that makes a great IPA!
