When our alarms went off at 6 am we all slept in for 10 minutes. When we woke up we showered and left grabbing the disappointing hotel breakfast for the road.
We drove an hour to Capulin Volcano National Monument. When we got there we went to the visitors center, got our junior ranger books and drove to the top of the volcano. 🌋 When we got to the top I was amazed. It was covered in grasses and it was like bowl not like mountain. We walked around the rim and it was super windy and the trail was thin but paved. I was super scared to look into the volcano. On the other side it looked like an ocean. It just looked flat but it wasn’t.when we got back around the loop we got to go inside the volcano. It was also very interesting we saw these catipillar things which will turn into moths. Now we are in the car again.
After about an hour drive we made it to Fort Union National Monument. We picked up our Junior ranger books and walked around. It’s weird how well preserved Fort larned was but how this was just ruins. We saw the prison which was the only building still standing. It was also used for the same purpose during the same time period. We also saw a mule deer in the ruins. All in all it was very interesting and cool. Now we are on the way to the third stop of the day.
We just finished at Pecos National Historic Site. It was absolutely amazing it was also sad when the missionaries came in and forced the Native Americans to change religions. The Spanish Missionaries built a huge church which the Native Americans burnt down. We also got to see the smaller church which the Spanish built when they returned. We also got to go inside a live. It was huge, a little scary and way too quite. We also became Junior Rangers for the 7th time this trip. It’s day 3!! Today has been a good day so far and we aren’t even done yet.
Dinner was delicious. We arrived in Santa Fe around 5. Santa Fe is super cute. The buildings are super cute but short. And the town isn’t too big. We walked around for a bit and then went to the Blue Corn Cafe. I had delicious homemade Root beer and we shared chips, queso, guacamole, and salsa. We decided that we wanted to explore and experience Santa Fe so we went to another place El Callejon. It was delicious and just right. I wanted something fresh and tacos so my mom and I shared a salad and tacos. Now we are on the way to the hotel to go swimming.
