We had planning on getting up fairly early to hit the beach, but we must of been too tired from all the water play. Zak, who needs less sleep than the rest of us, was up early and Zoe emailed him to tell him to bring me hot coffee at 9:00. We did good and were at the beach by 10:00. Ahhh, the beach. I have to admit I have a love/hate relationship with it. It’s beautiful, fun, great people watching, but there always is sand in every single crevice of our bodies. It seems much more romantic and easy than it actually is. But the girls seemed to enjoy it and I do have to admit riding the waves with them makes me the fun parent, a title I don’t often get to carry.
At 2 we packed up, cleaned up, and checked out of the Surfcomber. We never did see that monkey again, he must not like the sun. We made the quick seven minute drive to The Angler’s, also in South Miami Beach.
We pulled up and I immediately fell in love. It’s a few blocks away from the beach so we lost the whole Miami club scene and were, instead, transported to old school Havana. Kimpton had taken their employees on a day long boat excursion, so an old friend from the Tideline was running the front desk. We greeted each other like long lost friends and he hinted that we’d be having a delightful stay. Ellie threw out Kimpon’s summer magic word, “cannonball” and we were told that was already accounted for and to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
We were led to our room, a three level suite. I think it would be more accurate to call it a town house. Each level has it’s own patio, and for the first time all trip, Zak and I have our own room. I really can’t wait to just talk. We always have little ears listening and it will be nice to just chat without a filter. Swear word mania here I come! My favorite level is roof top. We have a whole space surrounded by greenery to ourselves. All four of us have already used the rooftop, outdoor shower, because how freaking cool is that.
We spent the afternoon lounging around and in the small pool, right off our lower patio. The setting is unreal, completely surrounded by succulents and greenery. It reminds of something I’d see in a old Cuban movie. So peaceful, relaxed, laid back. Zak and I sipped mojitos while the girls made their own lemonade. We did have a fairly intense game of family pool volleyball and I’m thrilled to say Zak and I kicked Zoe and Ellie’s bums.
Wine hour brought us passion fruit bellinis on the pool deck. We had appetizers of alligator bites and yucca fries with amazing dipping sauces. The food was awesome, but the amabiance wasn’t quite right tonight, so we ducked out and found a greasy burger spot. I know it probably seems like we only eat crap, but we do eat a lot of fruit, salads and so on. But the good stuff gets mentioned on here.
So that was the wrap up of the day. We love Kimptoms and for some strange reason, they seem to love us.
We don’t take many pics these days, so I’ll post them tomorrow. And I couldn’t convince anyone else to write. They all say they are too worn out from swimming and the beds are too comfortable. I made them promise to blog tomorrow.
Love this post! Would you mind if we shared on our Facebook page?
Of course not! Please, share away. And thank you for a most memorable stay!
