We made it! We are at the ocean! I’ve actually spent the last 32 days not really looking forward to this part of the trip. Getting to Florida would mean that the hiking part, the nature part, the learning, exploring, discovering would be over. I look forward all school year to connecting with the earth, and I, honestly, am disappointed that is over. But, I can’t let that dark cloud hang over us long when we are at Palm Beach. It is paradise here.
We did have to drive what should of been 5.5 hours to get here…damn line at Dunkin Donuts made it closer to 6. That’s just a smidgen of the driving we’re used to, but we were so anxious, so it seemed so long. We pulled into the Tideline Resort, another Kimpton, and were immediately welcomed by the kindest folks. Our room came with make your own Cuba Libres, fresh squeezed lemonades, and the most delicious, huge slice of chocolate cake. We immediately changed into the swimsuits and made our way to the beach. The beach!! Ellie and Zoe dashed to the water and frolicked in the waves. Zak and I sunned a bit and then joined them. It was so lovely! The girls found seashells and I was just in awe of the beauty.
After a couple hours, we enjoyed our first ever Florida Kimpton wine hour. So fun to be able to enjoy it on the brilliant patio. Then we made our way to the pool. It is one of those infinity pools and looks like it belongs in a fancy magazine. I had the spur of the moment idea to play chicken fight with the girls on our shoulder. That ended in tears. And I’m sad to admit that regardless of what girl was on my shoulders, I lost.
We eventually got dressed and went to dinner at Brandon’s, the Kimpton restaurant on property. We received a chef’s tasting of sashimi and I was proud of both girls for trying it. Ellie didn’t like it, but loved the chopsticks and Zoe gobbled her portion (politely!) What followed was the best meal of the trip. I am so full writing this, but my mouth is actually watering again because it was so wonderful. I had a guava braised short rib with the best roasted brussel sprouts and creamed corn. Although the food was delightful, the company made the meal perfect. There is something about salt water blowing through the girls’ hair, Zak a bit giddy from wine hour and a local IPA, and the clouds glowing pink from the sunset. It really was perfect night.
(I’m having trouble with the wifi, so will include the few pictures from today in tomorrow’s post.)
