Since the weather is starting to get quite a bit cooler, my parents bought Zoe super cozy, soft, warm pajamas. They’re the one-piece kind with the footies and the long zipper. They are a bit big, so they’ll last for most of the winter. The first night she wore them she woke up after being asleep for an hour, just screaming at the top of her lungs. Zak went to comfort her and she attempted to calm down, so Zak came back downstairs. However, Zoe’s screams continued, which is completely out of character for her, especially in the middle of the night. I then went up and noticed that her big pajamas we covering her hands, including her thumbs, which she sucks religiously during the night. I figured out that she thought that she had lost her thumbs and had no way to comfort herself. I rolled up her sleeves and laid her down in her crib and she didn’t make another noise until 8:30 the following morning.

Zak and I then talked about how horrible the whole experience must had been for Zoe. Can you imagine waking up without your thumbs? It must have been absolutely horrifying. Poor munchkin. Now we always roll up her sleeves at bedtime.
