Ryegrass Riders

They’re wild like the lands they ride . . .

So throw another log on the fire . . .

Take a pull and pass the bottle

Today was Phil’s World day! There is just so much to do here! So many possibilities, so just like all the trails we have yet to hike, we also have many on the agenda to bike. Since we only have a car carrier for two bikes at a time we spent a bit of time shuttling Molly and my bikes and then the two we rented for the girls to the trailhead. From there it was all smooth rolling today. No one fell, no one got too frustrated, no one got too tired. We pretty much did it perfectly.

The main goal of the day was to do the Rib Cage section of Phil’s World. We decided that the best way to approach it was to pair up. Zoe led with me following, then Ellie and Molly. The system worked out just about perfectly. Zoe took off and I did my best to catch up, then at each trail junction we would pause for a minute or two for a much needed break and drink of water until Ellie and Molly pulled up along side us.

There were parts the were difficult, most notably the uphill sections. Also though the sections that necessitated picking just the right line among a bunch of rocks and the successfully executing that plan. There were also parts the were terrifying. Most notably the downhills. On one section of the trail riders have constructed jumps to go over. My goal is always to take the alternate path around. I missed one of the alternate paths and went over a jump. Thankfully, I landed it without falling. There were also many parts that were just fun and beautiful.

After eating our PBJ&C’s in the car Ellie and I ran to Cortez to return the bikes and knock out a couple other errands. Then we headed back to Phil’s to pick up Molly and Zoe. The afternoon at home was more of what we did yesterday. I played some Uke. I worked on the baskets I’m crocheting, and of course got in a bit of a nap.

Dinner tonight was at home and everyone pitched in. One of the first meals we made here (before we even had a kitchen) was buffalo chicken salads, and that has become a staple meal not only here, but also in Illinois so it seemed destined to be on the menu at some point. Now it’s off to bed to get ready for A BIG day tomorrow!
