Feels Like Home

Have you ever been staring up at the starlight

Getting pretty close to midnight

Sounds just like the wind singing your name.

It’s in bars just like the one I’m sitting in now where many of the great songs are written. Jimmy Buffet’s “Incommunicado” or my own “Sitting at a Bar in Leadville”. Today, though, I am neither writing a song or in Leadville. Rather, I’m writing this blog post from Durango. Today marks the end of my time alone in Mancos, and while it’s been nice to have some time to myself, it’ll be even nice to have the rest of the fam here with me!

The reason I’m sitting in a bar right now is that I’ve assured Molly I will be at the Durango airport to pick her up promptly when she lands. For some reason this seemingly simple statement opened up the possiblity in her mind that I might NOT pick her up. It actually seems that the more I reassure her that I’ll be there the less likely she seems to think that I’ll follow through. Her concern seems totally baseless since I don’t think I’ve ever failed on a task like this one.

The last couple days have been filled mostly with cleaning the house. I squeezed in a bit of time on the uke and a bit of time crocheting. I happily didn’t go anywhere for the last couple of the days, subsisting largely on the pizza from the delicious SW Pizza in Cortez that I picked up on Saturday night for dinner, coffee and stroopwafels for breakfast, and whatever I could find for lunch.

The most eventful thing that happened was that smoke from the Pipeline Fire near Flagstaff, AZ brought visibility to about half a mile around the house yesterday. Mesa Verde was completed shrouded for most of the day, the even more distant La Platas and Ute Mtn had mostly disappeared the night before. During the worst of it in the late afternoon even the little hills just beyond our neighbors house were pretty hazy. Things were much clearer this morning in Mancos although it looks like the fire has continued to grow with minimal containment.

And that’s a wrap on my solo time in Mancos! I assume that with the rest of the family arriving in just a couple hours there will start to be updates from them as well, so get psyched for even more UntanglingKnotts!

  1. My daughter goes to NAU and has been keeping me updated about the fires. It’s terrible.
