Peaches

I left my girl, I’m in Mallorca

Hate to leave her, call it torture

Remember when I couldn’t hold her

Man, time flies sometimes. Apologies once again for my blogging absence the past couple days they’ve been full ones, but here’s the recap!

Sunday night after I left off in my last post I met up with my co-teacher and his family at the Dolores River Brewery. I arrived a little before them to find a gathering of about a dozen people with guitars and a couple other instruments gathered on the stage for what seemed to be a group jam session. It was fan to hear them for a couple songs, we need to put DRB on the Sunday night agenda to see if it’s a regular event. The visiting fam arrived and I got to meet all of his family over some delicious pizza. We eventually made our way back and got our first (non-family) guests settled into their rooms at Desenredada before sipping a whiskey on the deck next to the fire and under the stars.

Monday we all had a quick breakfast together before the set out to visit Mesa Verde and I got back to work. I spent a good chunk of the morning putting together furniture once again. This time for the upper deck where I’m actually sitting right now (on Wednesday morning) enjoying some coffee in the shade with a view of the sun rising on Ute Mountain and Mesa Verde. I also prepped the enchiladas we’d be having for dinner. I managed to squeeze in a quick bike ride after lunch since the pump to reinflate my tires arrived and I was itching to take it for a spin for the first time. As I was riding home the UPS truck passed me and I was delighted to find a package containing the screws I needed to continue work on the workbench on the porch. I made a little more progress before hopping in the shower just before my visitors arrived back home.

In pretty short order I set them to work on the guest book and settled in to watch Ellie’s 8th grade graduation over YouTube. It was sad to not be there in person, but I’m glad I was at least able to watch her walk across the stage. These kids are getting old way too fast. Congratulations, Ellie!

Congratulations, Ellie!

Back in Colorado we enjoyed our enchiladas, took a walk around the property so I could show off some of the sights, and then settled in for the talent show. I am a poor substitute as MC of the event. It didn’t have any of the pizzazz that Ellie brings to the table, but I did my best and we all enjoyed the acts: a set of arms that couldn’t be controlled, a comedic magic performance, a juggler, and of course an original song performed by me.

Tuesday we woke up and headed to Mancos for breakfast at Absolute Bakery, almost inconceivably for my first time this trip (not counting a blueberry muffin I picked up). Then it was time to say our good-byes as they continued on their road trip. Thank you for making the time to visit SW Colorado! It was so fun to have guests here! I got back to work on the workbench and made quite a bit of progress with a break to run a couple errands in Cortez. I made myself a buffalo chicken salad for dinner again. The highlight of the day may have been getting to watch episode 2 of the new season of Floor is Lava with Zoe.

So much progress made.

And now it’s Wednesday morning and I should get back to work. Fingers crossed that I can finish this project today so I can get on to the next one!

  1. Really enjoy you and your families posts here Zak! Good on you for getting so much work done. The sketch is awesome. How cool to have a place nearby that offers live music in a relaxed atmosphere like that. So excited for you, Molly and the girls. Your new home is awesome! Be well!
