The Untangling Knotts blog is back!!! Like the rest of the world we’re itching to get back to something reseambling normality after largely spending the past 15 months cooped up at home in Illinois. We are now now just FIVE days away from the start of RTXXI! We’ll be hitting many of our old favorite spots this summer: Glacier, Grand Teton, Bandelier, Chaco Culture, Great Basin, Arches, Canyonlands National Parks and of course lots of time in our favorite place in the world – SW Colorado.
A lot has changed since we last blogged a summer trip, but a lot will also be staying the same. We’ll all still be posting daily (when internet access allows), we’ll be backpacking hiking and camping all over the West, we’ll still be eating PBJ&C for lunch every day, and of course we’ve got some Kimpton days on the schedule (including Day 1 at the Cottonwood in Omaha). The biggest change is that about half the trip will be in our base-in-progress in Mancos, CO. It’s been an exciting challenge to build a house on the other side of the country during a pandemic. We’re excited to be able to be there as the finishing touches are applied this summer, and anxious for completion the first week of August.

For now I’m busy checking things off the ToDo list tab of The Spreadsheet. Zoe and I both had our last day of school on Friday so I’ve already made solid progress and am actually a bit ahead of schedule. Fred has been fully detailed inside for the first time in two years. The packing table is overflowing with everything we’ll need for the next three months after our big trips to Costco and Target. As always, I’m a little freaked out about how I’m going to manage to fit everything from the packing table into the newly clean Fred, but I’m sure it will work out.
