Grand Lake, Devil’s Lake, Crater Lake for Pete’s sake.

More snow today. Just like at Lassen Volcanic we knew it was coming, but it’s still a bit disappointing. We did get in a little hike here at Crater Lake from the Rim Visitor’s Center around a part of the caldera to a lookout point near Wizard Island. The temperature was brisk, and the views were wonderful. It felt very touristy and didn’t scratch the hiking itch we’ve all been feeling. Tomorrow we’re planning to hike a bit of the road that is closed and perhaps some of the Pacific Crest Trail.
One of the highlights of the day was an unplanned stop at a natural bridge. I was expecting it to be similar to what we saw at Natural Bridges NM, but it turned out to be something completely different. This natural bridge formed from a lava tube created after an eruption. Water rushing down the Rogue River nearly disappears at this point. After traveling underground for 200 feet or so it reemerges and continues on the surface.

Our afternoon was spent in the Great Lounge at the Crater Lake Lodge. We played some games, worked on creating our own game, drank some drinks, and easedropped on the employees complaining about how awful the management is. They are right, the management is clearly over their heads. The employees themselves are pretty incompetent too.

My fingers are crossed that we’ll finally be able to hit the trail tomorrow.
