Colorado National Monument, Grand Junction, and the Berry’s

This morning I woke up and Ellie wasn’t in the bed. After a moment of panic I looked over and she was with my parents.

After breakfast we headed to Colorado National Monument. We went to the visitors center. The Rangers suggested a bunch of hikes but then said we should do a different one. It was very confusing. Anyway we did a few overviews.

  1. Otto Trail: Not Otto from the Simpsons but the first custodian of Colorado National Monument. He married but ended up getting divorced 2 weeks later because he wanted to sleep in a tent every night. We over-looked Independence Monument where he put a flag on and the flag is still there. That was about 0.5 miles.
  2. Cole Ovens Overlook: This over look was about 300 feet but had amazing views. There were these 5 rocks that looked just like coke ovens. And no, I don’t know what a coke oven is.

After we drove towards Grand Junction. We walked around for a bit. Ellie got a book and my mom got a necklace she has been wanting. We went to a game store and now I want all of the expansions for Ticket to Ride.

After we met the Berry’s in Montrose for lunch. We went to Horsefly Brewery. I had a delicious brisket sandwich. We relaxed a little bit at their beautiful house and then went to see their daughter’s property. While we were walking around we found a bunch of bones. Ellie is going to put them in her National Park themed room. We then went back to their house to look for turkeys. We didn’t find any.

For dinner we had delicious Greek chicken. There was chicken, potatoes, homemade bread, kalmata and feta salad, and a salad with carrots tomatoes, and cucumber with a homemade dressing. It was all super delicious. After we hung out and ate gelato. It was a fun day!
