Our First Mountain of the Trip!!

Today our alarms went off at 5:30. As we rolled out of bed half awake at 5:45 we all knew this was going to be a fun day. Although it was no UFO Museum, it was amazing. Probably even better (if that it possible) than the UFO Museum. We got on the trail not knowing if we could do it but we did. About 1/8 of the way up we stopped for some beef jerky because, why not. And my dad took off his shirt to cool off and I was jealous so I decided that I could take off my shirt because I had a sports bra on. Anyway I climbed up the mountain without a shirt on. It was hard to go up but I couldn’t slow down. It was only easy if I went fast. When we got to the top after 3 hours and 45 minutes it was so rewarding, yet so scary. The views were so pretty but so far down. At the top we signed the book and at lunch again, PBJ&C. Also, we met very nice people at the top and along the way. One of the best parts of hiking is meeting new people. Today we met 14 people and all of them were very nice. Someone knew we were from Illinois and left cookies and a note on our car. This summit wasn’t like any in Colorado because it was so hot at the top. Also there wasn’t any scrambling. When we started going back down I felt so accomplished. Together it was 8.5 miles 3,000 feet of elevation gain and 6-7 hours of hiking.
