Nothing

That is what I have done to prepare for the 6 plus week trip we are about to depart on. Nothing.

Zak is so well prepared for this trip that I am not joking when I say that he literally already has his packing list written for Road Trip 2018. I have not thought of one item that I need to buy or pack for this year’s trip, let alone a trip in which we leave in 387 days. I also feel the added pressure of making sure Zoe and Ellie have everything they need as well. So, they may or may not have enough underwear to last 44 days. And if they don’t, that will fall on my shoulders at the last minute. Speaking of underwear, Zak has been buying his favorite ones all year long when they are on sale and will be able to go the entire trip with brand new underwear (Zak’s favorite underwear…I know you’re judging.) See, he plans these trips down to the tiniest details.

I am also no where close to being mentally prepared. I understand Zak wanting to push us a little further each year, taking more risks, making us dig deeper into ourselves to reach the goals. The only issue I have with this is that these aren’t my goals. My goals involve things like raising somewhat happy and somewhat healthy children, doing the best I can make a positive impact on our community, and become Secretary of Education. And I’m pretty sure that camping the deepest of bear-filled woods isn’t necessary to fulfill my dreams. Yet, somehow Zak convinced me that going three days IN A ROW without shaving, make-up, or even deodorant needs to be on my summer bucket list.

To end, I’m down to 18 days to get physically prepared (note to self: buy underwear) and mentally prepared (note to self: go three days without deodorant.) Yikes!!
