Two years ago the girls and I made our way up to Green Bay for the Packer’s Family Night. I have many fond memories of attending Packers games regularly when I lived here and I wanted to not only return myself, but also to give Z and E the chance to be inside Lambeau Field. Unfortunatly, actual game tickets are rediculusly expensive, so Family Night is the next best thing!
Both girls spent the morning working at the Brookfield Farmer’s Market selling produce. That meant Molly and I had a rare morning to ourselves. Since they needed to be dropped off bright and early (7:00) we started off with a couple cups of coffee at a newish coffee bar in La Grange. It must have been good because we were both jittery as we walked out the door. We also had a nice brunch in Brookfield before heading to the market ourselves to do some shopping for the weekend getaway.
The girls finished up their jobs at noon and we immediately left for Milwaukee. As we were talking about how we’d spend the weekend I jokingly mentioned that we could stop at the new Kimpton Journeyman for a drink at the rooftop bar. Then we all realized that it was actually a good idea!
We spent a couple hours walking around the very cute Historic Third Ward which is full of shops and restaurants. As four o’clock neared we headed for the hotel and were greeted by a familar face from the Burnham Hotel in Chicago. Gretchen welcomed us and after we reassured her that we wouldn’t stay anywhere else in a city with a Kimpton option she directed us up to the rooftop bar.
Apparently The Outsider bar has quickly become the destination in Milwaukee. People were already lining up at the door (including us) before the doors were even open and within minutes every table was full. We enjoyed drinks and snacks and even played some shuffleboard.
Fortunatly the drive up to Green Bay went quickly and somehow we were upgraded to a suite at the Radisson. Not quite a Kimpton suite, but still quite a nice surprise. Everyone’s tucked into bed now with Packery dreams for tomorrow!
