Firework

Another summit for the 4th! Even though it was a little one, being on top of a mountain is a pretty good way to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Without a doubt we set an UntanglingKnotts record for speed to a summit. We were up, down, and at brunch by 11!

Here is our track and some pictures for the day.

Brunch was great food with bizarre service. No one, including us, was sure who our server was. I think we were helped by 4 different people. Two different people brought us checks, neither of which was the person who took our order or the person who brought our food.

The afternoon was a lazy one. We did get everything ready to hit the road again tomorrow. We’d settled in a bit here is Estes. I guess that’ll happen when you stay in the same spot for 4 nights in a row. From here on out we’ll be in the same spot for no more than one night. Not counting the Kimpton in Palm Beach, FL which we’ll be at for 3 nights, but non-consecutively. It’s been a treat not to have to load and unload every day, but with the end of hiking coming up we’ll be able to condense everything in a couple days.

This evening we went out for some patriotic burritos since the food in Estes is pretty disappointing. Then we went to a patriotic concert. It was nice, we sat by the river and listened, but also kind of boring so we left. Coincidentally, as we were leaving we noticed Cowboy Brad singing in the park on the other side of downtown so we pulled into an open space and went to listen. He closed with Rocky Mountain High, a perfect and patriotic end to our musical evening. We’re back at the hotel now blogging and getting ready for tomorrow’s departure. In a bit though we’ll walk out to Lake Estes to end our day with a firework.
