Zoe is cool. Wicked cool. Over the past few days she has discovered her voice and it is a riot! She has been a noisy baby since the get-go, usually moaning or sighing, but now she has found a whole new set of sounds. She’ll make these new sounds then look at us saying, “Did you hear that? That was me! Cool, huh?” The new sounds are higher in pitch than the old ones and have more meaning behind them. I really believe she is trying to say something important, or silly, or, at the very least, something worthy of being listened to. It is remarkable to hear her “real” voice!

One thing we’ve learned over the past months is if it works this week, chances are it won’t work next. Well, pinning Zoe down with our bodies helps her sleep. This week anyway. Saturday night was especially frustrating and after nearly three hours of trying to get Lil’ Miss I Don’t Want To Sleep we were ready to try anything. So we laid her in her crib and I (gently) held her arms down so they wouldn’t move to her face and wake her up. Within minutes Zoe was asleep. It had worked! She slept soundly for an hour. Then she woke up, so Zak went and pinned her down and she went right back to sleep! Then yesterday, Zoe was trying to take a nap in our bed while Zak and I were reading. Zoe would have preferred to wiggle and talk instead. After 20 or 30 minutes of this Zak turned to me and said “You get that side and I’ll take this one.” Well, wouldn’t you know it, but Zoe fell fast asleep! On a side note, she slept through the night again!!!! You go girl!

If you know Zak pretty well, you are probably wondering what Zak was doing reading, as he doesn’t read books (only nerd magazines.) This weekend we both read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon and we both loved it! It only takes a few hours and we highly recommend it. Just a public service announcement!
