Walk Through the World

“Won’t you walk through this world with me . . . Over the mountains and the shining sea.” – Marc Cohn

Happy Anniversary, Molly! What a crazy 16 years it’s been. I can’t imagine a better partner in life to take on all the adventures and opportunities we’ve had!

We woke up this morning one last time at the Berry’s and after a cup of coffee said our good byes. We set off without any real plan for the day. We’ve got a load of big hikes coming up starting tomorrow so we didn’t really want to do anything like that today. Since we were approaching the town of Carbondale around lunch time we decided to stop there to explore town a bit.

We found a nice cafe with a huge porch where we hung out and enjoyed the coolish weather I’ve been looking forward to. We also spent some time walking along Main St browsing. From there we headed to Basalt, another cute mountain town where we’re spending the night. On the way in we saw the Lake Christine fire burning on the opposite side of the mountain from where we’re staying. No one here seems too concerned about it, so I guess we’ll just not worry tonight too.

We walked around town and found a restaurant with lawn seating to have a beer and play cards at. The afternoon’s been a lazy day of relaxing. All in all a pretty low key day. Tomorrow and Sunday we’ll be backpacking on Forest Service land near Aspen, so don’t expect blog posts again until Sunday afternoon (assuming we can find internet since we’ll be camping again).
