Zoe’s Post

The last few days have been a mix of emotions. There has been crying and laughing, gratefulness and frustration, and good and bad people.

On Friday it was pretty awful. We discovered somebody broke into our car. My parents did a great job dealing with the situation. They called insurance and the police right away. This is hard to write about, so I’m going to keep it brief. They police were very nice. They embraced Ellie and me with big hugs and told/showed us the process. We realized that almost all of our backpacking stuff was gone, we told the police, and then drove to the Honda Service Place. I sat in the front sear and my mom sat in the middle in the back. The reason for this is my seat was covered with glass and my window was shattered so another piece could fall off at any point.

At the Honda Service Center we decided that this would be the end of RTXVII. We made hotel reservations, had In-N-Out, and drove home. I was scared, sad, and mad. I cried, a lot. My mom put it on Facebook and there was so much support.  We are just a family on vacation that happens to have a blog. All of your kind words made me feel comfortable and safe.

Over the last few days all that we have done is drive so I’m going to get right to last night. We pulled up to the valet and said that we would need a luggage cart and explained what happened. They immediately brought us another luggage cart and told us to put the stuff we didn’t want in the room on it. We checked in and found a tent, candy, lemonade, s’mores kit, a stuffed moose, and a real goldfish. Kimpton made me feel at home and safe. Thanks Kimpton.

Today we drove and I decided two things I’m going to do over summer break.

  1. A Genius Hour project on Sully, the pilot.
  2. A food blog.

  1. Dear Zoe,
First of all I want to commend you on your bravery and humbleness. I am so sorry for what someone, who has no scrupples, did to you and your family. That being said, I am so proud of you and your sister and parents. I am not so sure I could have handled this with the grace that you all did.
I am glad you are all home safe and that you brought your goldfish home with you.
I prayed for you all as you traveled home that he would cover you with his powerful hands. And he did.
Have fun in the rest of the summer. Never let evil win over you. Because it can’t. You are all awesome.
    Welcome home.
    Love,
    Joanie (CG)
