If yesterday wasn’t exciting enough for you then this is the post to read. I have five words super slippery, steep, and beautiful. Now imagine hiking that on the side of a mountain. HARD.
Now let me start at 6:15 this morning. I woke up still tired and was told to get in the shower. Fine, I’ve done this 1,000 times. Well I got in the shower my hand on the knob to turn on the water and I realized that I had forgotten to take off my brace. So when I got back for my second time ready to turn on the water I realized that I forgot the shampoo and conditioner. So I went out to get them and the shampoo had opened because on the altitude change and there was a big shampooy, sticky mess. ULGH. Back in the shower for the third time I turned on the water started rinsing my hair and I saw my non-waterproof Fitbit on my wrist. Out of the shower again to put down my Fitbit. Finally I got a nice shower.
Then we started driving to Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a beautiful drive we saw elk and birds. Talking about animals last night we saw a bear, actually three bear, to cubs and a mama. We didn’t have to use the bear spray for a second time yesterday because we were in the car. Getting back to today we started at bear lake and walked up to Alberta Falls then up to Lake Haiyaha and down to Emerald and Dream Lake.
Imagine Colorado for 10 seconds. Is it hot or cold? Snowy or sunny? Well everything is right unless you said tropical and oceany. So on the first mile no snow after that at some spots 20 feet. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little but it was a lot of snow for June 12 or whatever the date is. Day 3.
As we kept on walking past Alberta Falls it got really snowy like we got lost snowy. We had to scramble and had like 5 maps open. everyone else in the family is probably going to say how hard it was but they all had two hands, I only had one. And in my one open hand I had a pair of gloves and a hiking poles which I barely could use because you need two. After a while I found where I want to get married. We stopped there had a little impromptu photoshoot and saw the first people we had seen all hike.
The spot where we were was a little lake off of Lake Haiyaha. We didn’t know what to do the main option you needed long legs and two arms. So my dad went that way and the rest of us walked around the lake it was longer but worth it. THE LAKE WAS GORGEOUS. I have skipped a lot so I’m going to do some quick flashbacks. We got lost navigating through the snow. I know that my dad said we know where we are we just don’t know where the trail is but boy were we lost. After we found where we were we ate lunch of PBJ and C. Now if you really love Peanut Butter Jelly and Cheetos try eating it for forty-four days. Yeah, it’s kinda disguising.
So on the second half we heard that there is some snow, but we don’t call that half death ledge for no reason. It was about for inches wide in icy, snowy snow. And one misplaced foot you would go down about 600 feet. Also I only have one had and a bunch of stuff in the other hand everyone is using two hands to get across I a using zero. Just a stick. BTW: I was freaking out the least. Before all five ledges I said my last possible words. Told myself I’m not going to die and went on. WE ALL SURVIVED!
We finished up that hike and decided that we will hike 2 miles to Emerald Lake we did that and saw an idiot. Who decides to walk into the middle if a freezing lake in a ½ in thick iceberg? Emerald Lake was pretty and so was the hike down.
I just remembered something else Ellie and I fell a lot. (My mom will include pics in her post.) So we were walking down a steep snowy hill and I fell down it. While doing so I thought why not just slide down? So I did just that. Ellie and I slid down a lot of hills.
Then we drove through the park stopped for dinner and now we are laying in bed. I a half asleep so I don’t know how much more I can write. It was definitely an adventure today.
I’m glad you managed to complete the day with only one hand! Don’t break the other one on the slippery slopes. How exciting that you found the place you want to get married! Grandpa and I will hike there, but I hope there’s no snow!
