Backpacking at Great Basin NP

This morning I woke up at either 6:33 or 7:33 I’m 90% sure it was 6:33 but there is no way to actually know. Time change is super confusing especially when there is no WiFi and your phone doesn’t update.

Despite the time we each grabbed a pastry from Kerouac’s. I had a delicious berry muffin. If you are ever in Baker NV I would definitely recommend Kerouac’s for breakfast and dinner.

After breakfast we drove to Great Basin NP. We had planned on backpacking at Pyramid Peak but because of the snow we stopped at the Visitors Center and asked the ranger. By the end we decided that we would do a similar route that we did last time except we would make it longer.

When we got to the parking lot we had too take everything out of the trunk. It totally lookrd like we were moving in. We had some bad luck today though. First, my dad’s laces broke. Then my blatter started leaking, then my dad’s, and finally my mom’s. My blatter replacement also happens to be the water filter so I have the cleanest water.

After we had everything we needed we set out we started but hiking down the road. We’ve hiked down a lot of roads times trip. This road was particularly gravely. Kind of like our alley. After that road we went and hiked in the campground and then finally the actual trail.

When we first got onto the trail I saw a sign kind of in the bushes. Wondering what it said we stopped and looked. We discovered that it was upper petroglyph cave. We continued on the trail and went up. We went up about 3,000 feet today over ten miles. Also, on the trail was snow, lots of it. When we were almost to the top. We decided to go sledding without sleds. I have not been sledding in years and it was actually scarier than expected. I think I am still wet from that. The hike was beautiful the whole way up. There were canyons and mountains and snow. When we got to where we were planning on camping we pitched our tents and had some dinner. I was planning on sleeping with dad but he isn’t feeling 100% so I’m tenting with Ellie and my mom.

You probably won’t see this until tomorrow because there isn’t internet in the middle of nowhere.
