Wildflowers

“You belong among the wildflowers

You belong somewhere close to me

Far away from your trouble and worries”

Miley Cyrus via Tom Petty.

My main goal for my time here is to take care of as many of the chore type tasks as I possible can before the rest of the fam gets here so that we can just enjoy the rest of the summer. I made some GOOD progress toward that goal today. The first thing on my list was to cut down the “weeds” that have sprung up around the house over the past couple months. I use the term weeds loosely because they aren’t the kind of thing that would qualify as weeds in Illinois. Bush would be a much better description for most of them.

Whew, just looking at those pictures has me thinking I’ll be seeing weed bushes in my nightmares tonight. In any case, by 10:30 I was ready to move on to task 2.

Cleaning the house. There’s not really much to say here except that is wasn’t clean, but now it is. Yay.

More exciting was my 3rd task of the day, continuing work on the work bench I’m building in the garage. We have a lot of plans of things we need constructed here. Ultimately we each want our own shed. Molly for art, me for whatever hobby I chose to pursue (I have a lot). Before I can get to those though I first have to get through building a firewood shed (for shed building practice), bunk beds in the bedrooms, and many other much smaller tasks. I’m happy to say that I’ve nearly finished step 3 and I think it’s looking pretty good. Unfortunately, the screws I need to attach that plywood on the bottom shelf and the permanent legs that are stacked up on the ground are not being delivered until tomorrow so this is where I had to stop for the day. I hope to have a really productive day of building tomorrow so I’ll be sure to update.

Molly said that she is “more impressed than [she] thought [she’d] be”. I’m pretty sure that isn’t a compliment.

I was able to relax a bit this afternoon and even made some progress on the baskets I’m crocheting for Molly and my night stands. I’m heading out now to meeting my co-teacher and his family at the Dolores River Brewery for dinner. Then they’re coming back here as some of our first guests at Desenredada.
