yesterday we celebrated the fourth of July all day so I’ll highlight some of the things we did.
- we sat on the balcony of the river all morning and played sevens and watched the “parade” which was a few rafts floating down the river.
- We headed to the Mancos brewery from Durango and ate some lunch and played more sevens.
- Then we went to our neighborhood bbq which was super cute. The highlight was definitely them bringing a grill from the others neighbors house on an ATV.
- We then went to the Cortez firework show which 8th best in the country according to USA today. It was actually amazing and I don’t even like fireworks typically.
Last night when we got back I asked what time I should set my alarm form I got the prompt answer and I quote “We want to get up and get going. How’s 6:45?” I immediately set my alarm and had about 7.5 hours of sleep. This morning at 6:45 I woke up did the typical social media scroll and was surprised when 10 minutes later nobody else was awake. IT WAS 8 when someone else woke up. ONE HOUR AND 15 MINS LATE. I literally just had to lay in the tent and play geometry dash because I don’t want to run out of service for an hour.
We were going to hike at Sharkstooth in the La Plata mountains. We took a turn and I’ve never been so confident that I was going to die before our car was tilting 19 different directions. We had to cross actual rivers. We passed thousands of cows and I thought we would get the point that we would have to ride one put because our car was at the bottom of the mountain.
The hike was so so pretty. It started by going 1000 feet up then 1000 feet down. It was so crazy how quickly the different flowers and grasses changed. We crossed so many little streams and saw a waterfall. Soon the storms started rolling in so we went back up the 1000 feet then back down the other side. We had to go back down the road although this time it was hailing.
We went back to Cortez and all showered. For the past 6 years there hasn’t been a good pizza place in Cortez. We found Southwest pizza and it was super good. Cheese Junkie pizza was *chefs kiss*. Then we finally got moose and more after a month of something always going wrong. I got oreo and it was so good. Well worth the wait.
