“I guess it must be wanderlust or trying to get free”
Gordon Lightfoot
It’s been way too many days since I’ve written. Since I know the others have I’ll spare you the play-by-play and hit some highlights that I feel I can add my own insight into.
Fischer Towers Hike – At the beginning of this trail there was a sign noting the numerous movies that had been filmed in the area. Perhaps most notable among these was “City Slickers 2: The Legend of Curly’s Gold”. I decided then and there that this was going to be a must see film this summer. That same night we viewed “City Slickers 1: The Original”. It’s now been several days and we haven’t yet had a chance to see the sequal. The daughters, however, have been bullying me relentlessly by threatening to watch it and spoiling the ending. They also keep referring to Curly as “Currey”, his gun as a sword, and his horse as a cow.
Alcohol in Utah – We visited State Wine Store #35 the other day, and it was pretty much as I pictured it. Racks of wine bottles, a shelf of beer, and a couple of spirits. All beers were available by the can. Usually I see this as a good chance to try something new. Here I saw it more as a statement that I really shouldn’t be buying all six. The spirit selection was limited and slightly overpriced. Oh well, we’ll be back in Colorado soon. Utah’s aversion to being in the same room as alcohol has also caused us issues in finding a place to eat. Generally, breweries top our list of places to eat since they tend to have something everyone can like to eat. However, here most breweries, as well as many restaurants that look tasty are categorized as “bars”. This means that no one under 21 is permitted and we have to search elsewhere for food. Finally, we did manage to find a place that served both good beer and good food for lunch. Out of a deep hope they’ll be able to continue doing so I’m going to keep the name of the place #SecretDetails, but if you’re ever in the area I’d recommend giving it a try.
Back to the Trail – Having spent a couple days (mostly) resting, I’m ready to hike again. Although it looks like we’ll have to wait until the 5th to do so.
