Happy Hour

“Where the haircuts smile”

The Housemartins

Today was another day that we didn’t do much, and yet the family rated it a four mountain day. It started off slowly at the HIE Cortez. I woke up at 6:30 and promptly started two loads of laundry. Then I got myself a cup of coffee from the breakfast lady who is always unhappy to be getting breakfast for guests and found a spot to crochet on the patio. Molly was the first to join me this morning followed closely by the girls. Once we’d all a a chance to have breakfast and shower (for the last time until tomorrow night) we headed out to our first stop of the day: Southwest Farm to Yarn Collective.

I started crocheting in October as a COVID project and it’s stuck well. Before leaving for this trip I decided the blanket I was working on was to big to bring with. I then bought about 30 skiens of yarn that pushed me 2 cubic feet beyond my 2 cubic foot personal space allowance. As the person responsible for loading Fred I somehow managed to sneak it in though. Out here I’m working on a blanket that will be made from a patchwork of granny squares. As I finish each square I’ve been stashing them away in the attic for later assembly. While the coop did have some beautiful yarns, I decided that my skill level was not yet up to the price of the locally produced yarns.

We made a quick stop back at COHO to check the progress of the last couple days. We found the floors just being finished, which meant we couldn’t go inside. This was made harder by the completion of the deck on the second story that we’ve been dying to step onto. We’ll have to wait for next weekend for those thrills since we’re heading out of town soon.

From there we headed to Durango and had our PBJ&C in a park. Molly and I got an oil change and badly needed wash for Fred while the girls hung out downtown. We found couches and a dining room table for the new house. I also got a haircut WITH a beer (as all haircuts should be).

While I was getting my haircut Molly somehow managed to find the best happy hour in Durango. I’m almost afraid to say where for fear of ruining it. I will mention that they primarily served pizza as well as what was probably the best margarita of my life.

Now we’re back on the deck at COHO for another perfect evening. Rain is again falling gently around us and the sun is setting while lighting up Mesa Verde.
