Today we visited Canyonlands National Park like we had done before but we visited The Needles District. If you didn’t know Canyonlands National Park is spilt into three districts: Island in the Sky, The Maze, and the Needles District.
This morning we woke up at 7:00 andate the hotel breakfast. I had Raisin Bran Cereal, a doughnut, and a lemon muffin, with pomegranate Juice. After that we drove an hour and a half to Canyonlands National Park.
We first stopped at the Visitor’s Center where Ellie and I got our first Junior Ranger Packet of the trip. We know that tomorrow we are going to hike the Devil’s Garden Trail which is long so we just did some little hikes.
On the way to the first hike we saw a bunch of Petroglyphs. There were a lot of them and they were all so majestic. They are thousands of years old. The Graffiti from stupid people that is over 50 years old you have you preserved it so Kayla and Bob from 1957 are still on the wall.
After Newspaper Rock we went to Slick Rock. Slick Rock is a 2.5 mile hike throughout the desert. We saw Panorama Point, and many other amazing views. On one of the view points we had to scramble to the top of it. It was very beautiful. We saw Molly’s Nipple.
After that we were all hot sweaty messes so we ate lunch in the air-conditioned car. While we were eating lunch and Raven sat on the roof of the car next to us which also has the windows open so the Raven made itself a lunch from the other car.
The next hike nobody knows the name of but, it was 0.6 miles, we saw a cowboy’s camp, and pictographs and petroglyphs.This hike was rather easy, we had to climb up two ladders and hike in some alcoves. Overall in my opinion this hike was my favorite of the day.
The next hike was very short only 0.2 miles we learned about some Native American Resources and we saw a grainery. This last hike was very uneventful.
We drove to the visitors center to receive our first Junior Rangers pins of the trip. Now we are sitting in the hotel room. We will have Zax for dinner and then go swimming.
