Another Mountain!

Another Mountain!

Last night I got the best sleep I had all trip. The bed was ridiculously comfy. When I woke up after way too much sleep I discovered it was only 6. After a couple rounds of Phase 10 with Ellie we started heading toward Cornado National Memorial. I didn’t really pay attention to the historic stuff so I can’t tell you much about Cornado other than that he used a step counter. We were supposed to just climb Cornado Peak….

A Long Hike

Happy Father’s day to Grandpa and Dad! I’m going to write about last night also. As you may or may not know we were camping and it was raining. There was thunder and lightning. I was tent buddies with Dad and you could hear Ellie crying through the tents. Luckily the storm didn’t last long. When Ellie and my mom woke up they woke me up also. For the first time this trip we all woke up before our alarms….

When we finally got up we drove to the World’s Largest Pistachio. Did you know pistachios are graphed with othrr trees.Well it was a total tourist trap. It was a steel pistachio shaped monument. Inside reminded me of the world’s largest truck stop. Cheep suveniors sold…

Our First Mountain of the Trip!!

Our First Mountain of the Trip!!

Today our alarms went off at 5:30. As we rolled out of bed half awake at 5:45 we all knew this was going to be a fun day. Although it was no UFO Museum, it was amazing. Probably even better (if that it possible) than the UFO Museum. We got on the trail not knowing if we could do it but we did. About 1/8 of the way up we stopped for some beef jerky because, why not. And my…

Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument

Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument

I’ve been in more churches this trip than I have been in my life. Again we woke up ate breakfast and got to the park right as they opened. This monument is actually 4 sites. The visitors center, Abo, Quarai, and Gran Quivira. We started by going to the visitors center where we got junior ranger packets and watched the film. Then we headed off to the first one which was Quarai. So far they have all looked the same….

Georgia O’Keefe and Petroglyphs National Monument

Georgia O’Keefe and Petroglyphs National Monument

This morning when we woke up we went straight out for breakfast. We went to a cute little restaurant which had very delicious (and spicy) food. I had a breakfast burrito with red chilli sauce. It also came with potatoes and a bakery basket which was amazing. In it was 2 banana muffins, 2 corn muffins, 3 blueberry muffins, and 3 biscuits. I love them all (especially the biscuits) except for the corn muffin but I don’t like corn bread,…

Finally Hiking!!

When our alarms went off at 6 am we all slept in for 10 minutes. When we woke up we showered and left grabbing the disappointing hotel breakfast for the road. We drove an hour to Capulin Volcano National Monument. When we got there we went to the visitors center, got our junior ranger books and drove to the top of the volcano. 🌋 When we got to the top I was amazed. It was covered in grasses and it…
